June 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

District Collector A. Kowsigan, also the District Electoral Officer, has urged the public to inform him of violations, if any, of the model code of conduct which is in force on account of the upcoming by-election at Aruvikkara.

In an official statement, Dr. Kowsigan said the meetings could not be held on public roads, and government buildings or on their premises during the campaigning. The use of hoardings, posters, graffiti, banners and festoons have also been prohibited in such areas.

The misuse of public property for electioneering amounted to violation of the model code of conduct.

The setting-up hoardings, posters and banners in properties belonging to private individuals will require the written permission of the owners.

Dr. Kowsigan also said offering bribes and promising money or liquor to influence voters were also violations of the code of conduct. Religious institutions and other places of worship must also not be used for campaign activities.

The public have been requested to report such violations by contacting or sending SMS to the following numbers.
