Private bus attacked

October 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

A private stage carrier came under attack near AKG Nagar under the Peroorkada police station limits on Saturday, allegedly in retaliation for a complaint lodged for ‘trip curtailment.’ The incident happened around 1 p.m. when the private stage carrier Soorya was proceeding from Peroorkada to AKG Nagar. The glass panes of the bus were damaged and driver K. Shameer and conductor Rajesh K.P. were assaulted.

Both were rushed to the medical college hospital. The half-a-dozen commuters who were to alight at AKG Nagar escaped without injuries. The police said Vinod, who hails from Peroorkada, was apprehended in connection with the incident.

The accused is a driver of another private stage carrier Saroma, operating on the same route. The attack was allegedly in retaliation for a complaint lodged by the owners of Soorya that Saroma was taking the return trip early, without completing the assigned route, to get more passengers.

The Traffic Police had acted on the complaint on Friday and had imposed penalty for permit violations.
