Pongala: food to be checked

February 16, 2019 12:51 am | Updated 12:51 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM

The city Corporation has decided to tighten its control of voluntary organisations that provide food and beverages to devotees during Attukal Pongala. Only those who have applied for the local body’s license and have received one will be allowed to distribute food to devotees.

Though the Corporation had implemented a similar system last year, many organisations had turned up without license at the last minute and distributed food to the devotees, according to health wing officials.

“This year, we will have health inspectors keeping a strict vigil in all health circles. The licenses and the quality of the food will be checked by the officials in each health circle all through the day. This is to ensure that only quality food is served to the devotees,” said a health official.
