Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday commissioned the first of the six projects under the Union Tourism Ministry’s Swadesh Darshan scheme at the Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple here. The project envisages integrated development of theme-based tourist circuits in Kerala.

Mr. Modi unveiled the plaque near the eastern gate of the temple to dedicate a host of new facilities, built at a cost of ₹78.55 crore, to facilitate hassle-free worship for devotees.

A 5.2-km heritage walk corridor, restoration of Padmatheertham, six fort gates and fort walls, a tourist information centre, storm water drains, drinking water fountains, paved granite walkway to the four entrances, solar-powered lights, cloak rooms, waiting halls, bathing complex, bio-toilets, signages, CCTV cameras, and security systems and software for digital museum are part of the project in the temple.

The project is part of the ₹92.44-crore spiritual circuit involving Sree Parthasarathy Temple, Aranmula; and Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple too.
