The State committee of the Kerala Swathantra Matsya Thozhilali Federation (KSMTF) has called on the government to extend the monsoon trawling ban to 90 days to allow replenishment of fish stocks.

A meeting of the committee welcomed the 61-day ban on trawling in the country’s Exclusive Economic Zone from June 1, while urging the Central government to permit motorised vessels to operate beyond the 12 nautical mile limits.

It also stressed the need to cancel the licence issued to foreign fishing vessels. It asked the government to enforce the trawling ban.
