Development of the State should mean improvement in the living conditions of the poor and the working class, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said.
He was speaking at the valedictory function of the second anniversary celebrations of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government here on Wednesday.
Recollecting the development works taken up in various sectors over the past two years, he said people of the State were responsible for taking the government’s initiatives in the right direction.
Projects made posiible
“Our State has lost a lot of time as far as development is concerned, owing to which it has suffered too. There was no impression that nothing will happen here. But now, after two years of this government, there is much hope about the future of our State. Even a project like the GAIL pipeline, which was thought to be impossible, is about to be completed.
Similar is the case with the power line from the Kudankulam plant. Railways have agreed to start the work on two high-speed lines parallel to the existing Thiruvananthapuram-Kasaragod line. How are these things, which were thought to be impossible, happening now? It is because the LDF government has a deep commitment to the State,” he said.
He said the LDF government was able to turn around the plight of public sector units (PSUs) in the State, which had now reported profits of ₹130 crore, which was a great improvement from the ₹100-crore loss two years ago.
“We have taken a lot of efforts to turn the State into an investor-friendly destination. Seven laws were amended to reduce the waiting time after the initial application.
Thanks to the startup ecosystem, our students now aspire to be employers rather than employees.
The CM said the government’s biggest achievement had been the change that it had brought about in the rotten political culture that existed in the State prior to 2016. He said it was unfortunate that the MLAs from the Opposition did not take part in the celebration.
Following the public function, ‘Mannum Vinnum’, a mega stage show directed by Soorya Krishnamurthy featuring 425 artistes, was staged.
