The farming scenario in Kerala is ideal for adapting zero budget natural farming system, Agriculture Minister V. S. Sunil Kumar has said.

He said that he, along with a group of agriculture officers, had the opportunity to visit Godavari region in Andhra Pradesh where this method of farming is popular.

Mr. Sunil Kumar said that zero budget natural farming can be implemented in Kerala in a much better manner than Andhra has done.

He was speaking at a workshop on zero budget natural farming organised by the Agriculture Department here on Friday.

Soil quality

The soil quality in Kerala has changed dangerously and this should be overcome. Zero-budget natural farming can help this in a major way, Mr. Sunil Kumar said

Keynote address

Subhash Palekar, who initiated the zero budget natural farming movement, delivered the keynote address at the workshop.

This farming method, which is closer to Nature and uses less fertilizers is imperative for the future of agriculture and farmers get assured profits as they are able to try various crops in this method, he said.
