Mental Health Day observed

October 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

Society should be given a science-based awareness about mental illnesses, the Additional Director of Health Services (Public Health) and the Director-in-charge, R. Ramesh, said. He was inaugurating an awareness programme organised here on Saturday by the State Mental Health Authority and Indian Medical Association on the occasion of World Mental Health Day. It was pathetic that in such a literate State, people still believed that prayers or black magic could cure mental illnesses. IMA State president Sreejith N. Kumar presided.

Walk flagged off

City Police Commissioner H. Venkatesh flagged off a walk from the Museum junction to Kowdiar in connection with Mental Health Day. The walk, organised by the medical college hospital’s Psychiatry Department and the Venad Guild of Psychiatrists, was aimed at increasing awareness of mental health among people.
