In another step to enhance the amenities for flyers, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) on Wednesday launched “Meet and Greet” services counter (Swagat Seva counter) at the Thiruvananthapuram international airport.
With this, the flyers will get round-the-clock service of trained attendants for check in and to escort them up to the immigration counter, for booking taxies and to take care of other needs in and around the airport concourse.
At present, the facility has been made available at Terminal -2 (International Terminal) and one counter each has been set up at the departure gate and arrival hall.
The personnel, including women, had been specially trained to look after the elderly, unaccompanied children, and first-time travellers.
Fee for service
Five uniformed personnel will work in a shift to render assistance to the needy flyers.
For porterage services at the check-in counter for arriving passengers, unaccompanied minors, elderly, sick and physically challenged passengers, Rs.200 will be collected.
A sum of Rs.500 will be collected as porterage services for escort up to check in and Immigration. Airport Director George G. Tharakan said it was also aimed at ending the complaints of fleecing of the passengers by the trolley retrievers.
Those seeking the service would be given receipt for the fee collected in the counter, he added. The counter will be operated by New Delhi-based M/s Saptagiri Restaurant Pvt Ltd.
The facility was inaugurated by Mr. Tharakan in presence of the CISF Commandant, Sumit Sharma, AAI and airline officials.
