Mayor seeks probe into graft in flat construction

Mayor V.K. Prashant has sent a letter to the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau to investigate allegations of corruption in the engineering wing, in awarding building permit for the construction of flats. The Mayor has asked for a probe against both the engineering wing as well as the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI), the apex body of organised real estate developers, which is alleged to have paid bribe to get permits.

The Mayor has informed that a permanent mechanism will be in place to handle complaints regarding the building permit sanctioning in the engineering wing. A committee comprising of the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Town Planning Committee Chairman, Works Standing Committee Chairman, Corporation Secretary, Additional Secretary, Superintending Engineer and Executive Engineers will handle the complaints. The committee will meet on the first and third Monday every month at 10.30 a.m.
