January 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

A 58-year-old man, a lottery seller and reportedly an activist of the BJP, succumbed to injuries he sustained after being attacked by a gang on January 24, at the Government Medical College Hospital here on Thursday. The police said the gang had attacked Babu of Ilakamon, near Ayiroor, late on January 24, after he objected to their bathing on the roadside and accused them of indecency. They later attacked him with iron rods. Babu was also said to have had an altercation with a group of DYFI workers over the destruction of a BJP flag post in the area earlier the same day. Whether the incidents were connected was being verified, the police said. The police have taken into custody three persons of the gang in connection with the attack and are on the lookout for the rest. — Special Correspondent
