P.M. Deepakumar, 40, one of the 12 Indians killed in Thursday’s road accident in Dubai, was initially thought to have sustained only minor injuries, his brother Jayakumar said on Friday.

“Only a small wound was noticed on his forehead after the accident. I was told that he was also conscious. His wife Athira had wiped the blood off and helped him into an ambulance. But there must have been internal injuries,” Mr. Jayakumar, who was alerted about his younger brother’s death late Thursday night, said.

Athira and the couple’s four-year-old daughter Amulya too were hospitalised as they had sustained injuries in the accident.

The bus they were travelling in was on its way to Dubai from Oman when it hit an overhead sign. An accountant with a Dubai firm, Deepakumar had been a resident of Dubai for the past 14 years. Athira is a homemaker. Hailing from Madhavapuram near Kochuveli in Thiruvananthapuram, Deepakumar was the youngest of three siblings. His body was expected to be airlifted to Thiruvananthapuram late Friday evening or by Saturday, his brother said.
