In an alleged suicide bid, a 41-year-old man was found hanging in his house in Karimadom colony on Monday.

The Fort police identified the deceased as Biju, an autorickshaw driver. His family alleged that he committed suicide after he had been tortured by the police after he had been taken into custody, two days ago, following an altercation with another driver.

Biju had been detained along with another autorickshaw driver Anil, both of whom operated from a prepaid auto-rickshaw stand near the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple.

The duo had allegedly assaulted another driver on Saturday for allegedly conducting trips from the stand without authorisation.

The Fort police soon took both into custody and let them off only on Sunday. They had been found to be intoxicated, the police said. The body was shifted to the mortuary of the Government Medical College Hospital.
