The police have arrested a man on the charge of stealing money and a mobile phone from a milk distribution van. The Kazhakuttam police arrested Sinaj, 49, an Alappuzha native who was living in a lodge at Beemapally, District Police Chief (Thiruvananthapuram City) G. Sparjan Kumar said.

The incident occurred on April 1. Sinaj allegedly stole ₹19,300 — the collection money from the sale of milk — and a mobile phone, from the goods van of Njandoorkonam resident Shajahan, who had parked the vehicle at Anandeswaram Junction and gone to deliver milk to shops.

Sinaj escaped on a motorcycle after the theft, the police said. After examining CCTV camera visuals from the area, the police zeroed in on his motorcycle. After a detailed investigation, Sinaj was arrested by a team led by Kazhakuttam station house officer Praveen J.S. and monitored by Kazhakuttam Cyber City Assistant Superintendent of Police Hari C.S.

Several cases, including theft, are registered against Sinaj at Kottayam West, Punnapra, and Kazhakuttam police stations. He was produced in court and remanded.
