District Collector K. Gopalakrishnan has appealed to political organisations and individuals in the district to cooperate to maintain peace and harmony, irrespective of the Supreme Court judgement in the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi title dispute case. He was speaking at an all-party peace meeting convened in the city ahead of the SC verdict which is expected to be pronounced on Saturday.

He said that all attempts to destroy peace would be dealt with strongly. Hate campaigning on social media using fake IDs would be watched, and action initiated. Representatives of political parties and religious leaders in the district, who took part in the meeting, said that they would take the initiative to ensure peace.

Control room

The public can contact the control room that functions round the clock, in case they come across attempts to foment trouble. Contact numbers: 0471-2730045, 2730067.

The meeting also decided to organise peace meetings led by representatives of political parties and religious leaders at the local level in various parts of the districts immediately. At each of the police subdivisions, DySPs should call peace meetings of various organisations. They have to also take care of the security arrangements.

Based on the decisions in the police subdivision meetings, sensitive areas coming under each police station need to be identified and peace committees formed under the leadership of the station house officer. Police picket has to be arranged in sensitive areas. Religious leaders, political party representatives and media persons should ensure that the SC verdict is presented correctly to the public. The cyber wing of the police has to carry out active surveillance of hate campaigns in social media using fake IDs. Media has been advised to maintain sobriety in its coverage. In case of any emergency, dry day will declared in the district.
