The LDF is not in favour of the government accepting the sole bid submitted by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) to build the port superstructure and operate the proposed Vizhinjam seaport.
At an all-party meeting chaired by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at the Secretariat on Wednesday, Leader of Opposition V. S. Achuthanandan pointed out that the project does not protect the interest of Kerala and the nation.
“Handing over the proposed Vizhinjam port to a private individual will affect the nation’s security and hence the LDF cannot support the project put forward by the government,” he pointed out.
“Drastic changes are needed All support of the LDF will be there if the government incorporates the changes,” he added. Sources said they did not expect the meeting to be a smooth affair as the LDF had raised Rs. 6,000 crore corruption charges. Mr. Chandy said he was shocked as it was 90 per cent of the project cost.
