LDF exudes confidence

The focus will be on efficient service and welfare for all: Vaikkom Viswan.

October 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 08:18 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

Left Democratic Front (LDF) convener Vaikkom Viswan has exuded the confidence of registering an impressive performance in the local bodies elections.

Addressing presspersons after a meeting of the front here on Sunday, he said the LDF had almost completed the seat-sharing process. Local government-specific manifestoes would be released on the basis of the public opinion elicited earlier.

Focus areas

The focus would be on efficient service and welfare for all. Drinking water and power for all, renovation of houses constructed under the One Lakh Housing Scheme, improvement of health and education infrastructure facilities and expanding WiFi connectivity are some of the key commitments in the LDF manifestoes.

Other than issues like price rise and corruption, the front would raise the growth of communalism in the elections, he said.

Asked about the RSP Kozhikode district committee’s decision to support the LDF, Mr. Viswam said that if any UDF ally defects in protest against its policies, the local LDF would take decision on supporting them.

Regarding a proposal to field CPI(M) leaders Karai Rajan and Karai Chandrasekharan, accused in the Fazal murder case, in the elections, Mr. Viswan said that public men may have to face such issues. Unless proved, they could not be deemed guilty, especially when the government was trying to nail LDF workers, he said.

For thorough probe

The LDF wanted an efficient and comprehensive probe into the death of Swami Saswatikananda in the wake of the recent developments. Since too many people have come out with more details, a detailed probe would clear the air, the LDF convener said.
