Kerala lags behind in MRTS

While the detailed project report (DPR) of the Light Metro for two cities in the State is awaiting Cabinet nod since October 24 last, the Andhra Pradesh government has cleared the DPR for the metro rail for Vijayawada in less than a week.

The DPR for the Vijayawada metro project prepared by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was submitted by corporation Principal Adviser and Adviser to the Andhra Pradesh government on Metro Rail Projects E. Sreedharan on April 26 to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

On May 4, the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet cleared the DPR for the mass rapid transit system at an estimated cost of Rs.6,823 crore. The Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation, the special purpose vehicle as suggested by the DMRC, has been set up. The work on the Vijayawada metro on turn-key consultancy will begin in June.
