The South Zone special squad of the Excise Commissioner seized 385 litres of illicit spirit and arrested one person along with a vehicle from Ambalathinkala, near Kattakada, on Tuesday night.

T. Anikumar, Excise Intelligence Inspector (South Zone), said a Skoda car had sped without stopping during a vehicle inspection by the squad around 10 p.m. on Monday. The car, which developed technical snags during the escape, is believed to have reached a vacant spot near the Homeo College ground at Ambalathinkala. The spirit was found buried in the ground. Local people recovered a mobile phone from the spot.
