A student of the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) at Valiyamala was found hanging in his hostel room on Friday.

The Valiyamala police identified the deceased as Prameed, a third-year Avionics student, who hailed from Hyderabad. The police suspect the student to have committed suicide after being allegedly caught by the college authorities for malpractice during the ongoing semester exam. He was purportedly caught using his mobile phone during the examination held earlier in the day, the police said. The body is kept at the mortuary of the Government taluk hospital at Nedumangad. A post-mortem examination will be conducted on Saturday, officials said.
