The flow of assistance to rebuild the lives of the flood-ravaged families continued with greater intensity on Wednesday with institutions, organisations and collectives committing to support the flood-hit in different ways and handing over cheques for substantial sums to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan here.
The HDFC Bank announced that it would adopt 30 villages in the flood-hit areas and Shrikumar Nair, its Zonal Head, Kerala, presented a cheque for ₹10 crore to the Chief Minister.
The bank, he said, would set up medical camps and rebuild health centres affected in the flood, support renovation and reconstruction of school buildings and impart skills training to families to restore livelihood.
The Mata Amritanandamayi Math too came up with a ₹10 crore contribution to the CMDRF with Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri, vice-chairman of Mata Amritanandamayi Math, handing over the cheque to Mr. Vijayan.
The other major contributions of the day were ₹7 crore being the contribution of Kudumbasree Mission, ₹4 crore handed over to the Chief Minister by Federal Bank managing director and CEO Shyam Srinivasan, ₹3 crore from the Kerala Headload Workers’ Welfare Fund Board ₹2.5 crore from the BSNL Employees Association.
United India Insurance Company director K.B.Vijay Srinivas handed over to the Chief Minister a cheque for ₹1 crore on behalf of the employees.
Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd. (SMIPL) a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan, ₹1 crore KMC Construction, Andhra Pradesh, contributed ₹1 crore also to the CM’s fund.
