The first of the four tugs ordered by Adani Vizhinjam Port Private Ltd (AVPPL), the private firm selected to build the superstructure and operate the International Multipurpose Deepwater Seaport at Vizhinjam, has started journey from Kobe Port, Japan, to Vizhinjam.
The tugs (marine craft) were ordered from M/s Kowa, Japan, by the AVPPL as per the concession agreement signed with the government.
All the required statutory certificates from Indian Register of Shipping have been obtained for the shipping of this tug, a spokesman of the AVPPL said.
Dolphin 26
The tugs will be used for port operations when the vessels start arriving in Vizhinjam seaport.
The tug, Dolphin 26, will probably be berthed in Kattupalli port at Ennore, near Chennai, being managed by the Adani Group, for the time being as the seaport works at Vizhinjam had not been completed, an official of the Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd said.
The AVPPL has placed orders for eight 72-m cranes, which can shift containers from vessels that berth at the seaport to the yard, and for another 24 small cranes.
