Expert panel to study spread of cancer

The government will constitute an expert committee to study and recommend solutions for the spread of cancer in the State, Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar has said.

Replying to a calling attention motion of V.S. Sunil Kumar on enhancing the cancer treatment facilities, Mr. Sivakumar said in the Assembly on Monday that every year there was an increase of 50,000 cancer patients in the State. Steps have been taken to elevate the Regional Cancer Centre here into a State institute. A sum of Rs.120 crore has been earmarked for the purpose. Mini RCCs would be set up in all district hospitals. Linear accelerator would be provided in Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Thrissur and Kozhikode Medical College Hospitals. The government would consider the Ernakulam District Cooperative Bank’s offer to provide loan for setting up a cancer treatment facility there. Infrastructure Kerala Ltd would set up a hospital in Malappuram for Rs.100 crore, he said.

Right to Service

The government would strictly enforce the online monitoring of the implementation of the Kerala State Right to Service Act, 2012, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said. Reply to a calling attention motion of N.A. Nellikunnu on the delay in providing services, Mr. Chandy said that Institute of Management in Government had been directed to submit proposals for the effective implementation of the Act. The institute and National Informatics Centre are already monitoring its implementation and the government would give more accent for improving the monitoring system, he said.
