Excise officials attacked, two arrested

May 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:56 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Two persons were arrested by the Aryanad police on Sunday on charges of manhandling Excise officials who inspected their container lorry.

The police said the arrested, Shibu, 45, driver of the lorry, and Ameen, 50, the cleaner, attacked the officials after the lorry was stopped for a routine inspection. The inspection was based on a tip-off about a consignment of illicit spirit, but it turned out that the lorry the officials stopped had only a consignment of tiles.

It was after this that the accused attacked the Excise party, they said.

The driver and the cleaner, both residents of Uzhamalakkal, near Aryanad, would be produced before court on Monday.
