e-literacy programmes will be launched in all jails in the State in the next year, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has said.

He was speaking after inaugurating the reading week programmes at the Central Prison here on Wednesday.

The government was committed to ensuring the citizens’ rights and human rights of all prisoners. It was of the view that all those who had served 10 years in prison should be released. However, an ongoing case in the Supreme Court stood in its way, Mr. Chennithala said.

The State government would file a petition in the court in this connection. The reading day pledge was administered by Inspector General of Police (Prisons) H. Gopakumar, a press note issued here said.
