Buoyed by the success of its three literacy programmes for the socially and educationally marginalised sections of society, the Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority (KSLMA) is now all set to roll out its fourth standard equivalent course as a continuation of these programmes.
This will be open to nearly 6,900 participants who cleared the literacy exams in the first phase of the Samagra, Navachethana and Akshara Sagaram programmes, launched by the KSLMA last year.
“We are planning to launch the fourth standard equivalent courses as the second phase of these courses. Besides, fresh batches in the literacy courses in 100 more tribal hamlets and 100 Scheduled Tribe colonies and in selected areas in Kollam, Ernakulam and Kozhikode districts will also be inducted,” P.S. Sreekala, Director, KSLMA, told The Hindu . Under the Samagra programme held in the 100 most illiterate tribal hamlets across the State as identified by the Scheduled Tribe Development Department, 1,996 participants cleared the literacy exam.
Now the fourth standard equivalent course will be rolled out in 100 more select tribal hamlets in the State. The course will be run in 25 each tribal hamlets in Palakkad and Wayanad; 15 in Idukki; seven in Malappuram; five each in Thiruvananthapuram, Kannur and Kasargod; three each in Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, and Kozhikode; and two each in Kollam and Thirssur districts. Under the Navachethana programme aimed at eliminating illiteracy among scheduled tribe communities and giving an opportunity to school dropouts, 1,756 cleared the literacy exam in the first phase who will be now eligible for the fourth standard course.
