A driver of the State Road Transport Corporation, Muralidharan, 54, was killed after the bus he was driving rammed another RTC bus near Ooruttambalam near Naruvamoodu here on Friday. Twenty-two passengers sustained injuries, none of them serious.
According to the Naruvamoodu police, both the buses were from the Kattakada depot. While the bus driven by Muralidharan was on its way from Ooruttambalam to Naruvamoodu, the other bus was on its way to Ooruttambalam from Naruvamoodu around 7.45 a.m. when the bus driven by Muralidharan rammed the other bus head on. Passengers from both buses suffered injuries, with two women on the bus that was rammed suffering the most.
While Mohanakumari, 45, from Malayinkeezhu lost all the teeth from the upper row and seven from the lower row, apart from bruises all over, Jaya, 47, also from Malayinkeezhu, had a fracture on her right arm.
The driver of the second bus escaped with minor injuries.
The other passengers, all of whom were administered first aid and discharged, had only minor injuries. Muralidharan had sustained internal injuries after the driver’s cabin was completely mangled in the impact of the accident.Though he was rushed to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital, he passed away around 11.45 a.m.
