Doubts over complaint of burglary at Maranalloor

October 14, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The police have registered a case and are investigating a complaint lodged by a woman, Radha, from Maranalloor on Monday that two burglars had sneaked into her house and fled after removing a gold chain from her and stealing Rs.4,000 in cash.

The Maranalloor police, however, said that there were discrepancies in the statement given by the complainant.

There were no signs of any forced entry into the house, with both the front and back doors remaining intact. The complainant had said that her assailants had broken in through the back door.

Then, the chain was not broken off, but removed from her neck, she had said.

The police said the usual modus operandi for thieves was to break it off.

Senior police officers had visited the spot and an investigation was on.

The police said that reports on the woman being tied down before the chain was removed from her neck were baseless.

That was not what she had told the police, though she apparently claimed this before certain sections of the media later.

The police say there are discrepancies in the statement given by the woman who claimed that a gold chain and Rs.4,000 were stolen from her house.
