July 07, 2019 01:06 am | Updated 01:07 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram

A mechanism to address students’ problems at the school level itself should be devised, State Planning Board member Mridul Eapen has said. School protection committee should be made functional in every school, she said.

Dr. Eapen was delivering the keynote address at a discussion organised by the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights on strengthening school protection committees here on Saturday.

She said it was society’s responsibility to create a safe environment for children and create awareness of security among them. Schools should facilitate children’s physical and mental growth.

Commission chairperson P. Suresh said school protection committee empowerment was the most important programme to be implemented by the commission this year.
