June 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:57 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The Railways organised several programmes in and around Thiruvananthapuram Central station on Tuesday as part of the ongoing passenger facilitation fortnight and cleanliness campaign.

At Pettah station, autorickshaw drivers operating from station area along with railway personnel cleaned up the railway station premises. A free medical camp and blood screening camp for passengers was also organised at Pettah and Thiruvananthapuram central.

In the Central station, the volunteers from Sahyadri Nature Club, Student Police Cadets, and railway staffers joined hands in spreading the message of cleaner and litter-free railway stations.

Passengers and rail users joined in taking a pledge for a litter-free station. The 35 Student Police cadets from Punnamoodu Government Higher Secondary school counselled passengers who were carrying plastic carrybags. The plastic bags were replaced by eco-friendly paper bags provided by the club.

A rally was also taken out in the station area by SPC cadets, railway staff along with Nature club activists. Tree plantation at the Power house road side of the central station was also held.
