Chandy writes to Modi

Kerosene sought for fish workers

May 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:59 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi ensure kerosene quota for traditional fishermen in the State.

In a letter to Mr. Modi, Mr. Chandy said that 11.43 lakh fishermen were depending on the Centre for kerosene to operate their boats. Recently, the Centre had imposed restrictions on kerosene supply. Against the State’s requirement of 15,000 kilolitre, the Centre was providing only 2,525 kilolitre through the public distribution system. Mr. Modi should direct the Petroleum Ministry to provide the required quantity of kerosene, he said. — Special Correspondent
