A statue of sage Bharata, considered the father of Indian theatrical art forms, is to be unveiled at the Guru Gopinath National Dance Museum at Vattiyurkavu here on Monday.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will unveil the statue which depicts the sage in a dance posture. Culture Minister K.C. Joseph will inaugurate a project titled ‘Kanivu’ aimed at providing dance and music education to differently abled and economically backward students. K. Muraleedharan, MLA, will open the Nrithaanjali Mandapam.

Guru Gopinath Natana Gramam vice-chairman D. Sudarsanan told a news conference here on Wednesday that the work, including an artificial waterfall and other facilities, was done using Rs.25 lakh.

The statue is inspired by the chants in Sage Bharata’s seminal text Naatyasastra , blending the laasya and thaandava elements with the image of Nataraja forming the backdrop. In the statue, the sage has a beard, sacred thread, and ‘rudraksha.’
