The indoor stadium was renovated at a cost of Rs 1.8 crore. The renovation work included the laying of a new wooden floor in the stadium, state-of-the-art lighting facilities, new dressing room and allied facilities.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, while inaugurating the indoor stadium, said the National Games presented a good opportunity for Kerala to improve the infrastructure in the State.

In seven districts

“We got an opportunity to host the National Games after 27 years and it was unique as no State in the past has hosted the National Games in seven districts. It also gave us a chance to improve sports infrastructure in those seven districts. Yesterday, I was overwhelmed by the passionate crowd in Kozhikode when I went there to inaugurate a stadium for National Games.

“The new stadium in Kozhikode was a realisation of a dream for the people in that district and I hope it will be the same in other districts too. The 35th National Games will give a fillip to development of sports in the State and we should work together to make the National Games a grand success,” the Chief Minister said.

The meeting was presided over by Sports Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan. Speaking on the occasion, the Sports Minister said he agreed with the Chief Minister and added that Kerala had many talented sportspersons but the State didn’t have adequate infrastructure to nurture them.
