Centre urged to avoid emigration clearance for nurses

‘Nurses could not go for jobs to 18 countries after May 30’

June 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has appealed to Union Minister for Foreign Affairs Sushma Swaraj to avoid emigration clearance for nurses who were interviewed and selected before May 30.

In a letter to Ms. Swaraj on Tuesday, Mr. the Chief Minister reminded her that she had given this promise at a meeting of the overseas Indian affairs Ministers from all States.

At the time, the Union government had, while accepting the suggestion put forth by the Non-Resident Keralites Affairs Minister K.C. Joseph, said that emigration clearance would be avoided for nurses who had been selected through a transparent interview process.
