Campaign to protect wetlands launched

A campaign to protect wetland and create awareness on the need to protect water sources was launched at Mangalapuram near Pothencode.

The project would be taken up with the technical support of the Water Resources Department and financial assistance from Central government. An official release here said an extensive campaign would be carried out in the village to encourage people to conserve water sources.

Pothencode block panchayat president Vetturoad Vijayan inaugurated the programme in presence of chairman of the standing committee for Health and Education Naushad, ward member of Mangalapuram Ajalkumar and ward member of Thonnakkal Anitha Kumari, the release said.

The campaign would be taken up in places at Mangalapuram where acute water shortage had been reported in the past.
