Baby’s death could be murder, say police

May 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:55 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The Kadakkavoor police are likely to register a case of murder and arrest a woman on Wednesday in connection with the death of her eight-month-old baby girl at Keezhattingal, near Kadakkavoor, on May 8.

According to police sources, the woman, Chandraprabha, 28, had been taken into custody on Tuesday after doctors indicated that the baby’s death was not accidental and that there were enough indications of a murder. The woman had, on Friday, stated that she had taken an overdose of medication for mental illness and that she could have accidentally rolled onto the baby in her sleep, smothering the child in the process.

However, with the autopsy report and the doctors indicating more to the story, the police are interrogating the woman. Sources said the case, which was registered as that of unnatural death, would be altered into one of murder and the arrest of the woman was likely to be recorded on Wednesday.

The woman, who had shown signs of distress on Friday after the incident, was shifted to the Government Mahila Mandiram at Poojappura, the sources added.
