The district administration has geared up for the local body polls on November 2.

The commissioning of the electronic voting machines (EVMs) was conducted on Friday under the supervision of District Collector Biju Prabhakar. The EVMs for the elections to the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation were commissioned at the Sri Swathi Thirunal College of Music, Thycaud.

The commissioning the EVMs for the polls to the Neyyattinkara and Nedumanagad municipalities were conducted at Government Boys HSS, Neyyattinkara, and Government Boys HSS, Mancha, respectively. The exercise at the Attingal and Varkala municipalities were conducted at the respective municipal offices. The commissioning of the multi-post EVMs for the grama panchayats were conducted at the respective block centres.

Posting orders

Mr. Prabhakar said that the final posting orders for election officials had been despatched. Any official who had not received the orders should obtain the same from the offices concerned.

The Central government has issued an order permitting its employees to exercise their right to vote at the local body polls. As per the order, the employees can either cast their votes in the morning and arrive for work later than usual or leave from work early to vote in the afternoon. They will also be permitted to leave for voting during work hours and return later.

Holiday

The District Collector said that a holiday had been declared for schools on November 2. Only those schools, where counting would be held on November 7, would have holiday on the day.

A meeting of sectoral officers and location supervisors of wards 1 to 25 of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation and the four municipalities in the district will be held at Priyadarshini Hall, Kottakkakam, at 10.30 a.m. on Saturday.

The meeting of officials of wards 26 to 100 will be held at the same venue from 11.30 a.m.

Election officials who were unable to attend previous rounds of training have been advised to attend a workshop that will be held at the Collectorate Conference hall at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The Collector has said that presiding officers and first polling officers can also attend the programme.
