Aksharasree classes begin on March 15

Last phase of teacher training completed

The last phase of teacher training for Aksharasree, the Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority’s literacy and equivalency programme being implemented in association with the city Corporation, has been completed.

Classes will begin on March 15 for 8,500 learners from literacy to higher secondary equivalency category in 500 study centres across the 100 wards of the Corporation.

Training for 100 teachers for literacy classes, 200 teachers for class 4 equivalency, 300 for class 7 equivalency, 180 for class 10, and 120 teachers for higher secondary equivalency has been completed.

Literacy and class 4, 7, and 19 equivalency courses have only women learners.

Literacy classes will be conducted on the basis of new textbooks prepared by the mission. The content includes reading, writing, and mathematics.

Streams

The higher secondary equivalency course has both men and women learners. It has both Commerce and Humanities streams and includes all subjects that are present in the higher secondary regular course.

Ward-wise

The literacy class will have 25 persons from one ward, class 4 will have 20 from a ward, class 7 will have 15, class 10 will have 15, and higher secondary 10. This takes the total to 2,500 literacy learners, 2,000 class 4 equivalency learners, 1,500 class 7 learners, 1,500 class 10, and 1,000 higher secondary equivalency learners.

The duration of the courses varies.

Class 10 and higher secondary equivalency courses will be conducted in various schools.
