Air Marshal Garud retires

Air Marshal A.P. Garud, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Air Command (SAC), retired on Sunday after distinguished service of 38 years. The personnel of the SAC headquarters bid farewell to the outgoing AOC-in-C by presenting a Guard of Honour before ceremoniously escorting the Air Marshal with traditional fervour.

Mr. Garud was commissioned in the helicopter stream of the IAF on December 29, 1976. The Air Marshal has over 6,100 hours of flying experience on various helicopters and training aircraft in his career span. Before taking over as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief SAC on January 1, 2014, he was the Senior Air Staff Officer at Training Command Headquarters. During his stint as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, he has been instrumental in enhancing the operational capabilities of the command. Operation Dakshin Prahar and other joint exercises were conducted under his command.
