Even while the State is under the grip of local body polls, the focus of the nation has been on the Bihar Assembly elections that are viewed by many as a potential game-changer in national politics. A poster exhibition on the history of Assembly elections in the State got underway at the University College on Friday.

The two-day programme is jointly organised by the Kerala History Congress and the Department of History, University College. The posters have been compiled by Vasisht M.C. of the Department of History, Malabar Christian College, Kozhikode. The exhibition begins by providing a glimpse into the general aspects of Bihar and then goes on to focus on the Chief Ministers who have led the State since the first Cabinet.

Then there are details on the political parties that are in the fray. The party-wise lists of seats won in the elections since the Assembly polls of 1951 provides a picture of the standing of each party in the political arena of the State.

Inaugurating the exhibition, M.K. Thankamani, Principal, University College, said that the visual representation of the milestones in the electoral history of Bihar would become highly beneficial for the students of history. P.F. Gopakumar, Head, Department of History, University College; and N. Gopakumaran Nair, Secretary, Kerala History Congress, spoke on the occasion.

The exhibition has been organised as a prelude to the first annual conference of the Kerala History Congress to be held on November 20, 21 and 22. The organisation has nearly 400 members who are research scholars in history, postgraduate history teachers and experts in the field.
