Title deeds for families in coastal belt this year

Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran said here on Monday that all eligible families residing in coastal areas of the State will be issued title deeds this year.

He was addressing a public function organised to distribute title deeds to 100 families in the EMS Colony at Poovar.

Mr. Rajendran said the remaining 38 families in the colony would also be given title deeds soon.

He said 19,500 title deeds had been distributed over a period of one month, in connection with the anniversary of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government.

Mr. Rajendran said village officers had been directed to prepare a list of all landless families living in the coastal belt.

George Mercier, MLA, presided over the function. Block panchayat president Ushakumary, district panchayat members and Revenue officials were present on the occasion.

Later, addressing another function organised by the Revenue Department and the District Information Office at Nettayam, Mr. Rajendran said the government would issue title deeds to all eligible families and land to landless families by the year end. “Officials have been directed to collect details of all landless and homeless families and process their applications speedily.”

Presiding over the function, Law Minister M. Vijayakumar said the LDF government had launched a slew of welfare schemes.

The Ministers distributed 63 title deeds and the first instalment of assistance to the beneficiaries of the EMS Housing Scheme. A public contact programme was also organised.

Mayor C. Jayan Babu, District Collector Sanjay Kaul, rural block panchayat president M. Harilal, tahsildar Madhu Gangadhar, representatives of political parties and officials were present.
