Talent hunt in athletics for students

A talent scouting programme in athletics, Gail Raftaar, will be held at University Stadium here on January 17 to select and nurture talented sportspersons in the age group of 11 to 14 years and 15 to 17 years.

The programme is being organised by the National Yuva Cooperative Society (NYCS) under the Union Department of Agriculture and Cooperation in partnership with GAIL to build Team India for the summer Olympics of 2020 and 2024.

NYCS Sports Kerala Coordinator Rajeev Gopal and District Coordinator Ratheesh told a press meet here on Friday that students from the capital district, Kollam, and Pathanamthitta of the prescribed age group may participate for the speed trials in 100 m, 200 m and 400 m. The trials will begin at 7.30 a.m. Participants will have to bring two passport photos and Aadhaar card for registration.

Benefits

Those selected will be eligible for the zonal trials to be held from Bengaluru on January 31. Those selected there will attend the national trials in Delhi. Selected students will get sports kit and accessories, nutritional advice and supplements, guidance from professionals and exposure to national and international tournaments. They can train at their home grounds with a personal coach.
