: A 52-year-old man who was accused of sexually abusing a minor was found hanging a short while after having allegedly committed the crime on Thursday.

Chandrababu, who hailed from Olippuvila in Vellar, near Vizhinjam, was found dead in his residence, where he has been living separately from his family.

The body was found by around 4 p.m. by police personnel, who had rushed to the spot after being alerted that a minor had been subjected to sexual exploitation by him.

“The incident had come to light when the child was seen running from the house, crying for help.

It is being claimed that the deceased had left her for dead after sexually abusing her.

However, such claims could be ascertained only after conducting a thorough probe,” K.R. Biju, Circle Inspector, Vizhinjam, said.

Belongings found

With some of the belongings of the victim, which had gone missing a few days ago, being purportedly recovered from the deceased’s house, the police suspected that the latter has been plotting the crime for a while. The inquest proceedings were postponed to Thursday owing to fading light, the official said.

While a pit was found dug near the house, the police were yet to confirm whether it had any connection with the incident.

Victim’s health stable

Meanwhile, the health condition of the victim, who was admitted at a government hospital, is satisfactory, hospital sources said. Despite scratch marks being found on the body, rape was yet to be established with the results of medical tests yet to be known, according to authorities.
