A total of 66.3% of children in the age group of 9 months to 15 years in the district have been administered the one-time measles-rubella (MR) vaccination.

A review meeting at the Collectorate here on Tuesday put the number of vaccinated children in the district at 4.27 lakh.

The meeting also decided to issue strict directions to schools after it came to light that some of them had sought consent letters and parents’ presence for the vaccination.

District Collector K. Vasuki and Subcollector Divya S. Iyer will visit schools that will best undertake the measles-rubella vaccination. They will visit schools that ensure that more than 90% of the students are vaccinated.

At the meeting, the Subcollector said students and teachers of schools that displayed social responsibility would be congratulated.

Videos being circulated on social media against the vaccination were false, and people should remain vigilant, she said. The campaign began on October 3.
