110 arrested so far for violence

The police have registered 77 cases against 1,601 persons in connection with the violence that took place in different parts of the district during the past three days.

A total of 110 persons have been arrested so far and 25 of them remanded in judicial custody, while the remaining 85 persons have been released on bail.

Three Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) workers have been arrested in connection with the killing of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker Chandran Unnithan at Pandalam.

The Revenue Divisional Officer at Adoor clamped prohibitory orders in the police station limits of Adoor, Pandalam and Kodumon for three days from Friday midnight following escalation of violence in these areas.

BJP office attacked

However, an attack on the NSS Karayogam building at Kodumon and another attack on the BJP office at Enathu were reported in the early morning hours of Saturday.

Two motorcycle-borne assailants gate crashed into the house of local CPI(M) leader P. Raveendran at Munnalam, near Adoor, around 10 p.m. on Friday and hurled country bombs. Mr. Raveendran suffered burns on his leg and arm in the explosion .

A similar country bomb explosion was reported from Pazhakulam too on Friday evening.

The police staged a route march in Adoor town on Saturday afternoon.
