The city Corporation on Saturday sent eight loads of relief materials, including food, medicines, and clothes, to the flood-hit regions in various districts.

The local body is also organising a one-day collection camp across 16 centres on Sunday.

The material collection points will be at the Corporation main office, Putharikkandam, Jagathy grounds, Kazhakuttam ward committee office, Sasthamangalam Junction, Vanchiyoor Junction, Vattiyoorkavu ward committee office, near Chakka YMCA, in front of Peroorkada Sopanam shopping complex, near Thiruvallam Corporation zonal office, Ulloor Junction, Statue Junction, opposite Thampanoor Chaithram Hotel, in front of Sree Chithra Engineering College, Vizhinjam Junction, and Sreekaryam Junction. The counters will function from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The items to be collected are rice, green gram, wheat powder, puttupodi, rava, coconut, coconut oil, tea, sugar, chilly, salt, biscuit, bed sheet, towel, sanitary napkins, undergarments, nighties, lungi, t-shirt, shirt, sari, notebook, pen, paste, brush, bathing soap, washing soap, and bucket.

The Mayor has requested the city residents to contribute these materials according to their capabilities.

In the past two days, individuals and various organisations started bringing in materials to the round-the-clock control room at the local body’s main office. It has collected materials worth around ₹50 lakh.

In addition, checks worth ₹2.3 lakh have been received from contractors’ unions and residents’ associations. Several city youth have also come forward to volunteer at the collection centres.
