Mangaluru youth held on charge of chain-snatching

The police arrested a youth on the charge of chain-snatching at Manchikodi in Shivally village coming under the Manipal police station limits here on Thursday.

According to the police, Lalitha, 52, was going for work at around 8.15 a.m. on Thursday, when a youth tried to snatch a gold chain from her neck. But she resisted and pushed him and he fell down.

He then got up and again tried to snatch her chain. Though she resisted, he managed to escape with half of the chain.

During the struggle, she recognised the youth as Praveen Naik, who lived in the same place. The value of the chain snatched had been estimated at ₹9,000 and a case was registered.

Acting on her complaint, the police arrested Praveen near his house at Manchikumeri at around 3.30 p.m. the police said.
