Workshop on ‘Save the Western Ghats’ on Saturday

The Kumaradhara Samrakshana Samithi, Puttur, has arranged a one-day workshop on ‘Save Western Ghats’ on May 9 at Urumbi, near Kadaba, on the banks of the Kumaradhara.

A release from the Samiti said the workshop would review various proposed mini-hydel power projects across Kumaradhara, movements to oppose the same and the present condition.

On the occasion, a study report on the Yettinahole project, prepared by the Energy-Wetland Research Group of the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, would be released.

The workshop would also discuss the report by Subramanyan Committee on the proposed amendments to the Environment and Forest Acts. It starts from 11 a.m. after a Satyanarayana pooja, the release said.

Zilla Panchayat President Asha Thimmappap Gowda, environmentalist Ananth Hegde Ashisara, IISc scientist T.V. Ramachandra, economist B.M. Kumaraswamy and others are expected to attend the workshop.
