Tension prevailed for a while at Talapady, on the border with Kerala, on Saturday when the Mangaluru city police stopped activists of the United Democratic Front (UDF) of Kerala from holding a victory procession under the jurisdiction of the Mangaluru Police Commissionerate. A UDF activist was arrested and five motorcycles seized.

The activists were taking out the rally in celebration of the victory of Congress candidate Rajmohan Unnithan from Kasaragod parliamentary constituency. It was held in Manjeshwar police station limits in Kerala.

Some motorcycle-borne activists entered 100 metres into Karnataka and raised slogans in support of the candidate. The city police team stationed at the border stopped them and sent them away. A few minutes later, a large group of motorcycle-borne UDF activists entered Karnataka, again raising slogans.

Telling them that they did not have permission to hold a rally in Karnataka, the city police asked them to return. When the group refused, the police used lathis to send them back. Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil said a case of unlawful assembly has been registered against the activists.
