Some people from the coast working in Bengaluru has started a Twitter campaign with the hashtag, #connectustomangalore, regarding the lack of road connectivity to the coast following landslips on the ghat roads.
Led by financial analyst Gopal Pai Maani, the campaign urges authorities concerned to provide at least one passage for buses for the travel of the public.
Mr. Pai told The Hindu that the group has planned a mass campaign on August 24.
With the closure of the Shiradi and the Sampaje Ghats, the movement of buses has been hit hard. Not everyone can afford to travel by air and hence the campaign urges authorities to restore normal traffic on at least one of the passages, Mr. Pai said.
“It is not that we are insensitive to the happenings in Kodagu. At the same time, people want affordable travel between Bengaluru and the coast and many want to travel regularly in the sector,” he said. Along with Mr. Pai, Vijesh Shenoy, Nitin Bhandary, Siddarth Pai and others are leading the campaign.
They have formed a WhatsApp group comprising about 75 members for the purpose.
“We understand that the authorities concerned are working hard to restore the connectivity. The Twitter campaign intends to convey the hardships to them, including the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways,” Mr. Pai added.
He further said that the Shiradi Ghat had never been in a good condition since 2008 and used to get closed often because of its poor state.
